Tuesday Dooze – On the Deck

My constant companion…he chased bugs while I transplanted some broccoli and cauliflower seedlings — thoughtful spring gifts from our neighbour.

The seedlings went into pots on the deck.  After several years of keeping a sizable kitchen garden, I’ve decided to throw in the towel.  I can’t fight the towering cedars that surround our backyard anymore —  roots that invade and consume.  Raised beds are the only solution (and they certainly aren’t going to happen this year).

I’ll add some tomatoes to my container garden (anyone have any seedlings they want to sell?), and I keep a number of potted herbs, but other than that, I’ll be at the mercy of the markets and what I can forage.

At least I know I’ll have someone to keep me company — even if he does get a little bored at times.

  1. Your Koda is so cute…beautiful color! Is he/she a Shibu? Great images (I love taking pics of my fur-kids!) =)

  2. Any tips for making those pots of herbs more attractive on the deck? Mine are a bit sad but taking up too much space. Strawberry pots are too tight; maybe I need to tier them. Got any suggestions?

    • Jill — I think everybody’s potted herbs look a little worse for wear this time of year…I re-pot them with a healthy dose of compost mixed in, or at least give them a “crew-cut” to stimulate new growth…how about a nice set of shelving from Nu-to-Yu? 😉
